Alguém já te criticou por você afirmar que gosta de Reggae?

Em sua origem no contexto ludovicense, o Reggae sofria fortes críticas. O ritmo foi fortemente incorporado pela população que vivia nas periferias e tal imagem prevalecia frente às camadas sociais mais favorecidas, as quais ignoravam a mensagem trazida por letras que falavam principalmente de libertação e amor. Com o tempo, foi-se imprimindo ao reggae em São Luís uma marca singular que vai desde a forma de cantar, até o modo de dançar. Somado a isso está a virada cultural que o coloca como um expressão da identidade maranhense e como base do turismo. Da história inicial até hoje é visível que houve a quebra de algumas das barreiras do preconceito associado ao ritmo, embora ainda seja um processo lento de respeito e conscientização.
